Dear
Parents and Guardians,
The last three months
in my letter, I have referred to the partnership that exists among
the school, parents and the students. In order to maintain
trust and a strong working relationship, I believe accountability on
everyone's part is key. As you know in late spring we received
a wonderful grant of $300,000 from the CME Foundation through the
efforts of the Big Shoulders Patrons program. This grant is
distributed at $100,000 a year for three years for the purpose of
building up Catholic Elementary Schools in the city of Chicago.
The chart below indicates our general investment plan for the next
three years. The Development Council and the School Board have
signed off on this plan. Our major thrust for this year has
been in technology, the refurbishing of our gym floor and the
expansion of our fine arts department. We have also purchased
new mathematics textbooks and Spanish supplements.
Please note that none
of this grant money is for general operational costs, which leads me
to my next point. We did not raise tuition for 2007-2008
school year but we are still over 80% tuition driven which makes it
imperative that all families make regular tuition and fundraising
payments. We will continue to pursue foundation grants and
other third source funding. We have just submitted a proposal
to the Brach Foundation for Teaching Assistants in the classrooms.
If you have any connections with foundations who support education
please let us know.
Next mothh I will talk
about our Project Based Learning In-services that we believe are
enhancing our students academic foundation here at St. Dorothy.
Thank you for all that
you do for St. Dorothy School.
Blessings,
Robert J.
