What is the typical class size and student/teacher ratio at St. Dorothy
School?
Class size at St. Dorothy averages 20-30 students per teacher.
Pre-school size is 20 students with a teacher and an aide; kindergarten
class has 20 students with a full-time aide.
How is the religious education curriculum implemented?
Religious instruction and prayer are a part of everyday classroom
instruction. All school Masses for grades K-8th
are at 8:15 each Friday. There is daily classroom prayer, an
all-school closing prayer at the end of the day and an occasional
all-school prayer service. Special celebration of the liturgical
seasons is also included. Children help prepare and take part in liturgy
that is developed for their level. Sacramental preparation is part of
the Sunday Religious Education Program. In 2nd grade,
preparation for the sacraments of confession and communion begins. In 7th
and 8th grade, students prepare for and take part in the
sacrament of confirmation. A Family Mass for the entire parish and
school is the third Sunday of each month.
When are applications for admission to St. Dorothy School accepted?
Applications are taken on a rolling basis beginning in February. It is
recommended that applications be filed as early as possible in order to
ensure your child's place.
Is the registration fee included in the total cost of tuition?
No. The registration fee for new families is $125. The registration fee for current families is $125
until March 11, 2005. After March 11,
2005, the registration fee for current families will be $150. All
registration fees are non-refundable.
What is the priority for acceptance for students at St. Dorothy School?
Priority for acceptance at St. Dorothy is as follows:
Children already enrolled in school and their siblings.
Children of parishioners.
Transfer students from other Catholic schools.
Non-Catholic children.
Is there transportation provided to and from St. Dorothy?
No, but the office provides a list of private transportation
companies that transportation to and from the school. Parents are eligible to file for transportation reimbursement
from the State of Illinois if the child lives more then 1.5 miles away
from school.
What type of lunch program does St. Dorothy School have?
St. Dorothy School provides a Hot Lunch
Program catered by Food Service Professionals. All students
have the option of bringing their own lunch to school. In addition,
Is there an after-school program?
Yes. For an additional fee,
St. Dorothy's has a before care program Monday thru Friday from 6:00
until 7:45 A.M. An express breakfast is available. The extended day program is
Monday thru Friday from 3:00-6:00 P.M. with a snack is provided each day.
Do students at St. Dorothy wear uniforms?
Yes.
Student uniforms, worn at St. Dorothy School by all K-8 students, are a sign
of the St. Dorothy Catholic education community. Uniforms are worn by
all students from the first day of school until
the last day of school. Non-uniform days may be announced occasionally
in the newsletter.

In addition, students are required to purchase the gym uniform. Students
are able to wear their gym uniform on gym days only.
Do St. Dorothy teachers regularly assign homework?
Yes. Suggested Archdiocesan homework guidelines include:
Grades 1, 2, and 3 are to spend approximately 30 minutes each night.
Grades 4, 5, and 6 are to spend approximately 60 minutes each night.
Grades 7 and 8 are to spend approximately 90 minutes each night.
Is there a Physical Education Program at St. Dorothy? Do you have a
gym?
Yes, physical education is offered two times a week(45 min. each) for
grades 3 thru 8th; three 30 min. periods for students in K
through Grade 2; and two 20 minute periods for Pre-K.

Are parents expected to raise funds for the school?
Yes. Presently there is a mandatory fund raiser of $350 per
family. During the year other fund raisers may be required based
on the school's need.
