Annual St. Dorothy Block Party!

On Saturday, June 30, from 10:00 - 5:00 pm,  St. Dorothy started a brand new tradition in our 90-year history!  We celebrated a day-long Block Party on 78th Street (between Vernon and Eberhart, and on Eberhart (from 78th Street to the School).  There was food for the body from our marvelous kitchens, games for the kids, booths and vendors for the adults, a reggae concert, AND an outdoor "Reggae Mass" at 5:00!  The primary goals of this festive event were social - fellowship and fun with one another, a stronger sense of bondedness among ourselves as family, and outreach to our neighbors and community!

Save June 28, 2008 for the Second Annual St. Dorothy Block Party!

Church Bulletin Info...

St Dorothy Mission and Goals:  We envision St. Dorothy continuing as a vibrant faith community which will:

  • bring the presence of Christ to our community;

  • provide a Catholic education for our children;

  • serve the community in which we live;

  • modify our goals to reflect the needs of church and society;

  • continue to grow in love for each other, and in love of God.

Praise and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honor and power and strength to our God forever and ever.  (Revelation 7:12)

Special Recognition:  On February 24, 2008, Holy Name Cathedral honored several young men from throughout the Mid-West as they received the Ad Altare Dei Scouting Award.

St. Dorothy  is proud to recognize Deleon Wheeler - Class of 2010, Michael Reed - Class of 2008, alum Lenard Wheeler - Class of 2005 and our own Deacon Wallace Harris' grandson Devon Harris.  These young men participated in a three-hour question, answer, and interview process.   They were able to explain how as young men they will continue to maintain Christian values as they mature in their Catholic faith.  So we would like to extend a "job well done."  Congratulations to these fine men.

 St. Dorothy Parish Religious Education Ministry

St. Dorothy Religious Education focus is “Family-Oriented.”

The family unit is the first basic support unit in our lives.  Strong families enable strong schools/churches/communities.  Everything we do… TEACHING / SOCIALIZING / OUTREACH.. is family-oriented.

 OUR GOAL WITH YOUTH/ADULTS/FAMILIES WE SERVE IS TO:

  • ENABLE A CLOSER RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS

  • BECOME A FAITH COMMUNITY

  • ENABLE A RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CHURCH COMMUNITY

SUNDAY SCHOOL:

  • Ages:  Pre-School through Adult

  • Each Sunday morning 8:30 – 9:45 A.M.

  • Snacks served at 8:00 A.M.

Sunday school is about:

·        Faith community – coming together as a people who believe in the same God – to strengthen their faith and to develop a relationship with God.

·        During this time, information is presented, shared and exchanged and in this sense it is a teaching time.

·        Our coming is out of our commitment to Jesus…and our teaching and sharing is based on Scripture…the Word of God.

·        Expectations are different from those of a daily classroom situation.  Reasons for coming on Sunday are different from those for attending school daily.

·        Our emphasis is on developing a faith community and on that faith community developing a relationship with Jesus.
