Board
of Specified Jurisdiction (BSJ)
INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT
The Board of Specified Jurisdiction (BSJ) is an Archdiocesan mandated
group where limited school leadership, management, monitoring, fundraising
and development pass into the hands of a broader, more diverse and
experienced group than merely the Pastor and Principal. BSJ committees
have been formed in line with areas specified by the Archdiocese, with
members coming from our parish, community, school parents, and outside
professionals. The BSJ meets bi-monthly with committee meetings being held
in the off-months and there is no fiscal remuneration for its members. The
BSJ officers will be Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and Secretary; the
consensus method will govern all meetings.
The structure
of our BSJ is fairly complete, but new members may be added to meet the
range of skills needed. Fr. Bob and Bob Zeegers (Principal, St. Dorothy
School) are ex- officio members as is the Chairperson of the BSJ. The BSJ
at present is composed of the following people: Vickie Cook (Chair), John
Wheeler, Bob Anderson, Shirley Conley, Dr. Dennis Sweeney, LaShawn Cobb,
Karin Norington-Reaves, Anthony Chimera, Brian Hutchins, Dr. Kevin Zajdel,
and Ty Andrews and Stephanie Richie.
MISSION
The Institutional Advancement (IA) function of
the St. Dorothy School Board of Specified Jurisdiction (BSJ) exists to
build commitment to the mission and purpose of St. Dorothy School (the
School) by:
-
facilitating effective communications between
the School and its constituents (alumni, families, friends, foundations,
corporations, community partners);
-
developing and nurturing relationships with St.
Dorothy constituents;
-
maintaining
and strengthening the financial stability of the School and its
programs;
-
establishing cooperative, working relationships
with the School community (students, faculty, staff, administrators,
board members); and
-
creating opportunities for St. Dorothy School
constituent’s participation in school-sponsored programs and activities.
VISION
To help make ST. Dorothy School the choice for
students and their families who seek a quality Catholic grade school
education by developing alumni and philanthropic awareness, understanding,
and support for the school.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES
-
to obtain greater awareness, understanding,
acceptance, and appreciation for St. Dorothy School from its major
publics;
-
to
secure sufficient voluntary financial support from key philanthropic
audiences to promote and extend St. Dorothy’s organizational objectives
and highest priorities; and
-
to acquire more students of the quality and
quantity that St. Dorothy School desires.
